Environmental and Sustainability Management Framework for Property NSW
NSW, Australia
Challenges
Property NSW manages a property portfolio worth over $120 billion, spanning development sites, power stations, landfills, industrial facilities, ports, and commercial assets. The scale and complexity of this portfolio demanded a structured approach to environmental management, including contaminated land, compliance, and remediation, to support both property transactions and ongoing asset management.
7th Sense was engaged by Government Property NSW to develop and implement a Strategic Environmental & Sustainability Management Framework, contaminated land management strategy/program, and environmental services capability to support its commercial transaction and property management functions across its wide portfolio of leased or owned property worth over $120 billion.
Solution
7th Sense supported Property NSW in the development and delivery of a Strategic Environmental and Sustainability Management Framework to embed consistent practices across the portfolio.
The project included establishing an environmental services capability, developing policies and risk-based procedures, supporting contaminated land management, and providing technical advice across major remediation and property transaction projects.
Impact
The framework improved the way environmental risks and liabilities were managed across Property NSW’s extensive portfolio. It enhanced due diligence for property transactions, streamlined compliance processes, and ensured consistency in contaminated land management. The approach not only safeguarded asset value but also strengthened sustainability capability across the agency and its partners.
